Sofi Filtration serves Anglo American in reducing the environmental impact of exploration in Sakatti

AA Sakatti Mining, the Finnish subsidiary of Anglo American, conducts exploration in Finnish Lapland. Exploration takes place around the municipality of Sodankylä with the multimetal deposit located 15 km north of the municipality. Since 2013 they have operated their Sofi Filter® SF1000 to remove fine solids from waters coming from drill core sawing.

“We saw around 7,000 – 10,000 drill core samples every year here in Sakatti. Our filter is in heavy-duty use during the season, and we’ve been happy with how it has performed for us. We also appreciate that the filter can be remotely monitored by Sofi Filtration”, explains supervisor Risto Moilanen from AA Sakatti Mining.

Sofi Filtration was established in 2011 to design and supply the mining industry with clarifying filters to remove very fine solids in low concentrations. Significant quantities of fine solids are generated during the sawing of drill cores and to reduce the solids concentration of the sawing waters, multiple treatment steps need to take place. To fine polish the overflow of a settler, the Sofi Filter® SF1000 is employed in Sakatti.

“Our first ever Sofi Filter was delivered here to Sakatti, and to have it soon be 10 years of age and serving our customer is a major achievement for us. We appreciate all the feedback we receive from our long-term customer and want to serve them long into the future as well”, says Riina Salmimies, CEO of Sofi Filtration.
